Founded by Katrina Thompkins, an ICU nurse currently working on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic in New York City, the health and wellness brand carries a wide range of products including oils, gummies, creams, bath bombs and even CBD-infused pet treats.
Through her business, Thompkins is also shedding light on the lack of Black-owned businesses in the CBD space.
“There is only 4.3% of black ownership within the cannabis industry. There is a huge disparity when it comes to building CBD brands within America that is not addressed. K’dara CBD is proud to be a black and female-owned company,” the brand shared on its Instagram feed last month.
In a recent interview with Black Enterprise, Thompkins shared that starting her own CBD company was about bringing her healthcare knowledge to the wellness space.
“As I worked as a nurse, I felt the need to continue to contribute to society with my passion for health and wellness,” she shared. “Starting a CBD business allowed me to continue to focus on health and wellness and also learn about a startup business and grow my passion for entrepreneurship.”
