BIRTHDAY OF THE DAY: Alan He, Capitol Hill producer for CBS News

How/where are you celebrating your birthday and with whom? “Dinner at Medium Rare in Cleveland Park with my girlfriend, Erin. I love their steak frites and sundaes, plus they’ve done an incredible job of supporting their community during the pandemic.”

How did you get your start in journalism? “I’ve always been interested in politics, but a fellow Colgate alum/CBS Newser Emily Bradley Greenfield helped me land a job as the CBS News Capitol Hill intern back in 2011. My first day on the Hill coincided with the first Anthony Weiner scandal and the fight over the debt ceiling later that summer. I was hooked.”

What’s an interesting book/article you’re reading during coronavirus social distancing? And why? “The Ellen Barry/New York Times story about people from out of state discovering the joys of Vermont during the pandemic and the quirky response by some of the locals. I’m proud of how well my home state has handled the coronavirus.”
